Finishers

The marathon has precise rituals.
The training, choice of clothing, course analysis, race tactics, and the race itself, obviously.

But the most iconic, symbolic and memorable aspect is without doubt, the finish line.
The finish line with the differing expressions of the different runners.
Even suffering has its own liturgy of expression. The way it tells a story through a gesture, a sign, a look. The way it “frames” the story of the race of races.

With his camera, Tim Clayton has produced an extraordinary collection of these “expressions”.
The setting is the Hartford Marathon, Connecticut, 12 October 2013.

There is no need for captions, the images themselves tell the story of the expectations, the dreams, the dedication that each runner has put into THEIR marathon.
